National Doughnut Day is the first Friday in June and was started in 1938 as a Salvation Army fundraiser to honor the donut “ladies” of WWI who took baked goods to the front lines.

Who needs to celebrate Father’s Day when you have National Donut Day this Friday?

You have to buy a drink to get a free doughnut if you’re runnin’ on Dunkin’, but Krispy Kreme are just giving the their golden goodness away with no purchase required.

According to Dunkin’ Donuts’ Brand Marketing Officer Frances Allen, the day holds particular relevance in 2009. “From office meetings to Sunday get-togethers, donuts are one of those foods that lift people’s spirits and bring genuine delight to any situation. And now more than ever, Americans are seeking those small moments of happiness,” she said. “We hope our free donut offer will create an opportunity for people to celebrate donuts and bring some extra happiness to their day.”

In Christian liturgical year, Easter is the main religious festival. Christian scripture says that Jesus was resurrected on the third day after the crucifixion. This resurrection of Jesus is celebrated by some Christians on Easter Sunday or Easter Day. This day is also known as the Resurrection Sunday or Resurrection Day. This day comes two days after the Good Friday. Easter is a moveable festival and is not fixed according to the civil calendar. Therefore the date of Easter varies between 22 March and 25 April.

On this sacred day, people celebrate with so many activities. The Easter activities for this Easter Sunday 2010 are Deviled Egg Recipe Food Network and How to Bake a Ham. In this sequence, we are going to discuss on deviled eggs recipe Rachel Ray. The deviled egg recipe is simple and one can make it easily. Rachel Ray is going to show the recipe for Deviled Eggs. When you are going to use the hard boiled Easter eggs, the deviled recipe is the perfect recipe for you.

A delicious appetizer or snack can be made by using the Deviled eggs. These eggs are packed with protein. As this recipe is a lower fat version, this is healthier than the other recipes. The following ingredients can be used for deviled egg recipe. One dozen hard boiled eggs, light mayonnaise, dried yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and paprika.

First after peeling the eggs slice them lengthwise down. Now remove the yolk softly and place them in a bowl. Now place egg whites on the serving plate. Mesh the yolk with fork or potato masher. Now sprinkle it in dried mustard and then mix it completely. Now add half cup of light mayonnaise and half teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce for taste and now add a dash of salt and pepper. To garnish, sprinkle with paprika.

I looked forward to this book with eager anticipation. I was not disappointed. I have followed Alice Waters’ life and career for more than 20 years and have always looked to her for inspiration. I have all of her other books, and while “Pat’s Biscotti” from her first book, The Chez Panisse Menu Cookbook, has been a staple from my kitchen, this new collection far outshines the rest.

I have been cooking exclusively from this book for the past two weeks. Everything, absolutely everything I have made has been stellar! First, there was the minestrone, which included homemade chicken stock and beans cooked from scratch. I have made both for years, but was never really satisfied, and more recently have relied on boxed broths and canned beans. No longer. The chicken stock was not over-powered by too many vegetables as recommended in other recipes, the beans were tender and held together, and they were seasoned to perfection with Alice’s direction to taste and salt along the way. This resulted in a minstrone that was as near to perfection as I have ever tasted. I added kale to mine, which added great color.

As I write this review, I am eating my lunch, which is the Polenta Torta, which I made two days ago. It is still as fabulous as it was then. First, Alice directs us to cook the polenta for one hour – yes, one hour. I thought to myself, oh, I don’t need to do that; 30 minutes will suffice. I had the time, so I let the polenta cook quietly on the back burner for the entire hour. What a difference! Unbelievable taste and consistency! I layered this goodness with the Simple Tomato Sauce and added a layer of sauteed mushrooms and a separate layer of sauteed zucchini. This is comfort food at its best!

In addition, I’ve made the scones – light, sweet, but not cloying; the Bean Gratin, which I served alongside plain ploenta – great taste and texture combination; and the peach crisp – a juxtaposition of texture, with the soft peaches and raspberries contrasted with the crunchy topping (I used slivered almonds, which I chopped and toasted in a dry skillet. I also added the zest of an orange – an Ina Garten trick.)

Tonight, I can’t wait to get home to cook the Braised Chicken Legs with Tomato and Garlic. I’ve been cooking avidly and passionately for a long time, and I haven’t been this inspired by a single cookbook for a while. It’s great to get the spark back. Thank you, Alice.

I’ve eaten in the Chez Panisse Cafe and Cafe Fanny (the breakfast bar) every time I get to Berkely. Someday, I will get to eat Downstairs. Until then, I’ll just have to be content with this most treasured tome.

* 1/3 cup sugar plus additional for sprinkling
* 5 oz bittersweet chocolate (not unsweetened), chopped
* 3 large egg yolks at room temperature
* 6 large egg whites
* Accompaniment: lightly sweetened whipped cream
* Special equipment: a 5 1/2- to 6-cup glass or ceramic soufflé dish

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375°F. Generously butter soufflé dish and sprinkle with sugar, knocking out excess.

Melt chocolate in a metal bowl set over a saucepan of barely simmering water, stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove bowl from heat and stir in yolks (mixture will stiffen).

Beat whites with a pinch of salt in a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed until they just hold soft peaks. Add 1/3 cup sugar, a little at a time, continuing to beat at medium speed, then beat at high speed until whites just hold stiff peaks. Stir about 1 cup whites into chocolate mixture to lighten, then add mixture to remaining whites, folding gently but thoroughly.

Spoon into soufflé dish and run the end of your thumb around inside edge of soufflé dish (this will help soufflé rise evenly). Bake in middle of oven until puffed and crusted on top but still jiggly in center, 24 to 26 minutes. Serve immediately.

Cooks’note: •Soufflé can be assembled up to 30 minutes before baking. Keep, covered with an inverted large bowl (do not let bowl touch soufflé), at room temperature.

Oscar Mayer is an American meat and cold cut production company, owned by Kraft Foods, known for its hot dogs, bologna, bacon and Lunchable products.

Oscar Mayer is also famous for their Wienermobile, which has toured the United States for over 70 years. The first Wienermobile was created in 1936, and six have since been built.

In 2007, the company was subject to an email hoax which claimed that Oscar Meter did not support the United States military.

Here are a few jingles that Oscar Meyer used to advertise their products. I’m sure you have heard some of them.

Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
That is what I truly want to be
‘Cause if I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
Everyone would be in love with me.

A 1965 version of the Oscar Mayer Wiener song goes:

Oh, I’d love to be an Oscar Mayer wiener.
That is what I’d truly like to be.
‘Cause if I were an Oscar Mayer wiener,
Everyone would be in love with me.

Oh, I’m glad I’m not an Oscar Mayer wiener.
That is what I’d never want to be.
Cause if I were an Oscar Mayer wiener.
There would soon be nothing left of me!

Another product’s jingle is almost equally well well-known:

My bologna has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R
My bologna has a second name, it’s M-A-Y-E-R
Oh, I love to eat it every day, and if you ask me why, I’ll say,
“‘Cause Oscar Mayer has a way with B-O-L-O-G-N-A.”

Cool huh ?
