All human beings have nipples on their breasts/chests. A nipple is that part of the body through which milk from the mother is given to her baby. They generally point out and this is the most common type. But out of all the people almost about 15 to 20 percent people have inverted nipple. It can be for females as well as for males. The inverted nipple is the one which instead of protruding out is retracted into the breast.

This is not so common but yes a lot of people have it. There is a misconception that there is a problem in breast feeding for mothers if they have inverted nipple but it is not so. When the baby sucks it they protrude out for a while and then set back inside. f still one does not want to go on with these, then she can get a surgery done in order to get the normal nipples. In the beginning for the new mothers there may be some pain in the nipples when they protrude out on sucking or during pregnancy, but this pain is temporary.

There are no complications in breast feeding with the inverted nipple. Though the surgery is a way to get the nipples to protrude, but this may render the female to destroy her competence to breast feed the baby forever. Another method of protruding the inverted nipple is to get it pierced, the piercing will make it protrude for a short time but the piece of ornament there will prevent it from getting back inside the breast.

But the studies say that there may be side effects of this method too. The best way is to let the body way it is. Inverted nipple is not a disease nor will it lead to any problem. So, let it remain the way it is naturally.

The scientific name of degos disease is malignant atrophic papulosis. The disease cause clots in various small and medium sized arteries in our body. The disease is caused when the cells in the inner linings of the artery walls swell, and block the free blood flow.

Some of the symptoms of degos disease are as follows:

Development of rashes on the skin is one of the initial symptoms. The pink or red papules measure approximately 2 to 15mm. These develop slowly. Once the rashes heal, you can see scars with white center. The patient may feel itching.

The patient may develop problems related to digestion, visual impairment and problems related to nervous systems.

Often the patient feels nauseated, constipated, get cramps in the stomach, diarrhea, vomiting etc.

Droopy eyelids

Chest pain

Weakness

Short breath

What causes Degos Disease?

The cause of Degos disease is still a mystery. The incidence of the disease is common amongst women, as compared to men. It can affect to a person irrespective of the age. Thankfully, degos is a rare disease.

How Is Degos disease diagnosed?

The rashes of this disease help in diagnoses of the disease. Although there are no direct laboratory tests to determine degos diseases, doctors may decide to do MRI or endoscopy to check gastrointestinal tract or other body parts.

How is degos disease treated?

Till date, the researchers have failed to come up with treating the degos disease. There is neither any treatment available, nor is there remedy to subdue the symptoms. In case you are severely affected by the disease, you should contact gastroenterologists, dermatologists, or ophthalmologists, depending on the symptoms of the disease. In extreme cases, where the patient suffers from gastrointestinal bleeding, then the doctors may recommend surgery.

People affected from this disease are able to lead a normal life.

Every year, the month of the October is celebrated as the breast cancer awareness month. This was started in the United Kingdom by some scientists. Many ladies have the problem of getting the breast cancer. This problem can be solved only if there is awareness and some basic knowledge given to the ladies about the problems connected with the breasts and how to avoid breast cancer. In the month of the October, the doctors and the researchers try to give more information and organize some programs and seminars to increase breast cancer awareness.

The breast cancer makes a person die and many of the Hispanic women die due to the breast cancer. So there is a necessity in organizing the seminars during the breast cancer awareness month. There is an increase in the getting of the breast cancer as the age increases. When a lady is forty plus, she has more chances of getting a breast cancer. Ladies should do regular exercises; have a good and a balanced diet that is rich in nutrients, vitamins, calcium, etc. It is important to avoid alcohol and other intoxicating substances which will brighten up the chances for getting a breast cancer.

Every lady can perform the breast cancer test by herself and then can get clues about whether they have the breast cancer or not. Simple observations like change in the color of the breasts, nipple discharge or any marks on the breast are some of the symptoms of the breast cancer.

In the breast cancer awareness month, the seminars are organized on how to conduct the self test, what are the symptoms of the breast cancer, the severity, the treatment that can be obtained, the side – effects that come along with the breast cancer treatments are generally discussed in these seminars and the programs.

Propofol is a drug that reduces anxiety and tension, and promotes relaxation and sleep or loss of consciousness. Propofol provides loss of awareness for short diagnostic tests and surgical procedures, sleep at the beginning of surgery, and supplements other types of general anesthetics.

Propofol is a very short-acting drug, and its effects generally wear off in just a few hours. However, propofol may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery for several hours after use. Do not attempt to drive yourself home if you have received propofol for minor outpatient surgery or diagnostic tests.

Avoid alcohol, mood-altering drugs, or any other medicines for at least 24 hours after a dose of propofol, unless approved by your prescriber or health care professional.

Propofol is for injection into a vein. It is given by trained anesthesia professionals in a controlled environment.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Side effects that you should report to your health care professional as soon as possible:

    * difficulty breathing, wheezing, swelling of the throat
* fast heartbeat, palpitations
* lightheadedness or fainting spells
* numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
* seizure (convulsion)
* skin rash, flushing (redness), or itching
* swelling or extreme pain at the injection site
* uncontrollable muscle spasm

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

    * dizziness
* pain or irritation at the injection site

What is hydromorphone?

Hydromorphone is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers, also called opioids. It is similar to morphine.
Hydromorphone is used to treat moderate to severe pain. The extended-release form of this medication is for around-the-clock treatment of pain. Hydromorphone may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Why would this drug be used?

Hydromorphone is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

How does this drug work?

Hydromorphone is an opioid pain reliever, similar to morphine. It binds to opioid receptors in the brain and central nervous system (CNS), reducing the perception of pain as well as the emotional response to pain.

What are the possible side effects of hydromorphone?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

FDA approval
Yes – first approved in 1984.

How is this drug taken or given?
Hydromorphone can be given by mouth as a pill, rectal suppository, or a liquid. It can also be given as an injection under the skin or in a vein as a short infusion or a continuous infusion with extra medicine that you can take when needed (patient controlled analgesia or PCA). The dose will depend on how well the medicine controls your pain.

The pill and liquid should be taken with a full glass of water, with or without food. You should shake the liquid before measuring the dose.

When taking a suppository, open the package and then dip the tip in water. If you are right-handed, lie down on your left side, bring your knees up near your chest, and slowly insert the suppository in your rectum about an inch. You should stay in this position for about 15 minutes, then get up and wash your hands well.

Store the medicine in a tightly closed container away from heat and moisture and out of the reach of children, pets, and others. Take this drug exactly as directed by your doctor, or as specified by the drug label. If you do not understand the instructions, ask your doctor or nurse to explain them to you.

TSS was first recognized to be caused by a certain brand of tampons which were made of a very absorbent foam material. They were taken off the market and are no longer sold. TSS is not very common; although it is more common in teenagers, but if you use tampons you should know about it and be aware of its symptoms.

Toxic shock syndrome is a disease believed to be caused by toxin-producing strains of the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. The tampon acts as a dam, stopping all normal flow–great for your period, bad when there are potential toxins present. All tampon users are at risk for TSS, but the risk is increased when using highly absorbent tampons (like “super absorbency” ones) or if the tampon you are using is too big for your body .You can reduce your risk of TSS by using pads at night or waking up during the night to change your “regular” tampons.

Symptoms

TSS is characterized by a high fever up to 105 degrees F (40.6 degrees C), sometimes a sudden fever, sore throat, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, fainting, a rash that looks like a sunburn, and muscle aches.

Warning Signs of TSS

A sudden high fever
A rash that looks like sunburn
Sore throat or mouth
Vomiting and diarrhea
Fainting
Abdominal pain
Headache and fatigue
Muscle aches–flu-like symptoms
Dizziness and confusion

What are the risk factors for toxic shock syndrome?

In the U.S., the incidence is approximately 1/100,000 women 15-44 years of age, with the overall incidence estimated at about twice that number.

Risk factors are the use of tampons (especially when left in place for an extended time period) and barrier contraceptive devices in women, surgery (especially nasal surgery), the use of wound packings (such as nasal packings), and postoperative wound infection.

How is toxic shock syndrome diagnosed?

There is no one specific test that establishes the diagnosis of TSS. The diagnosis of TSS is difficult until the characteristic symptoms evolve and a source for the infection is identified. Besides a thorough physical examination (which includes a pelvic examination in women), blood tests will usually be ordered and might include a white blood cell count (to look for signs of infection), blood cultures (evaluating for possible bacteria in the bloodstream) and evaluation of kidney and liver function. Blood tests to exclude other diseases may also be ordered.

Chest X-rays or CT scans of the abdomen or pelvis can be ordered to evaluate the internal organs, depending on the results of the initial evaluation.

What is the treatment for toxic shock syndrome?

If you suspect that you have TSS, you should immediately seek medical care or go to an emergency department for evaluation. Foreign material such as tampons, contraceptive devices, or wound packings must be immediately removed. Treatment may involve a combination of the following:

* intravenous (IV) fluids to stabilize the blood pressure, possibly in combination with medications to raise blood pressure;

* IV antibiotics to fight the source of the infection;

* oxygen administration;

* removal of tampons, nasal packings, or other suspected sources of the infection;

* surgical interventions to drain the source of the infection in cases of an abscess and remove necrotic tissue (dead tissues); and

* dialysis if kidney failure develops.

In his first public statement since the 17-hour operation in Boston in April, James Maki tells the newspaper that he can’t believe he looks so much like he used to.

Maki, 59, lost his nose, upper lip, cheeks, roof of his mouth, as well as muscle, bone and nerves after falling onto the electrified third rail at a Boston subway station in 2005.

For years, he said, he rarely went in public because people would recoil upon seeing him.

Maki’s face was disfigured in June 2005 when he fell onto the electrified third rail at a Boston subway station. He lost his nose, upper lip, cheeks, the roof of his mouth, as well as muscle, bone, and nerves.

For years he rarely went out because people would recoil when they saw him.

Maki, who grew up in Amherst, said he also struggled with substance abuse.

“My life up to that point was a mess,” he said. “I knew if I had the surgery I’d have a chance for a normal life again.”

Maki never thought about the possibility of a face transplant until 2007 when he saw Pomahac on television discussing the face transplant program he planned to start at the hospital.

Maki underwent the 17-hour operation after a Brookline man, Joseph Helfgot, died following a heart transplant. The men were about the same age and had similar skin tone.

The hospital did not charge Maki for the operation, which cost about $200,000. The doctors donated their time.

Maki has since met with Helfgot’s widow and Isabelle Dinoire, the French woman who underwent the world’s first face transplant.

“She seems to be doing really well,” Maki said. “It made me feel good.”

Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome is a slow-flow combined vascular anomaly (capillary-lymphatic-venous malformation) that is typically associated with marked overgrowth of the leg and geographic capillary stains. The condition may rarely be associated with hypotrophy. Anomalous lateral veins, which are typically on the lateral aspect of the thigh, become prominent because of incompetent valves and deep venous anomalies.

Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome: Hemihypertrophy of the soft and bone tissue, hemangiomata, and varicose veins form the basic triad of this syndrome. Unilateral lesions of the legs with cutaneous and subcutaneous hemangiomas, varicosities, phlebectasis and occasional arteriovenous fistulae were emphasized in earlier reports, but later findings indicate involvement of many other parts of the body. Vascular anomalies may be present at birth or may appear in infancy. Occasional associated abnormalities may include lymphangiomatous anomalies, limb deformities, cutis marmorata, micro- or macrocephaly, eye diseases, and craniofacial deformities. Most patients have normal mentality, except when vascular lesions invade the cerebral tissue. In the absence of arteriovenous fistulae, the syndrome is often referred to as Weber syndrome or Parkes Weber syndrome. Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome is associated in some cases with Sturge-Weber angiomatosis.

Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is listed as a “rare disease” by the Office of Rare Diseases (ORD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This means that Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, or a subtype of Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, affects less than 200,000 people in the US population.

The photo shows typical features of Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, enlarged leg with a capillary malformation or port-wine stain and varicoid veins.

Not all doctors are fully aware of what exactly KT syndrome is. If you are not comfortable with the answers that you are receiving, be sure to get additional opinions. In some cases that are more severe than others, delaying proper care can have adverse effects, including fatal, if not taken care of correctly. Some insurance companies look at treatments for birthmarks and other skin issues related to KT syndrome as being “cosmetic.” This is not true and should be fought against because again, not treating correctly in the beginning can be detrimental in the end.
