X-rays are electromagnetic radiation which is invisible. This high frequency radiation has a wavelength between 10 to 0.01 nanometers at a frequency of 30 PHz to 30 EHz. Due to small wavelength they can easily pass through solid bodies. X-rays were discovered by German physicist, Roentgen in 1895 when he was experimenting with gas discharge tube on electron beams.

X-rays are a great help to doctors for diagnosing patients without any surgery. The most common use of X-rays is for taking images of bones to discover any internal injury. They can be used to detect cavities in teeth, breast cancer and torn ligaments in body.

X-rays are also used in cancer therapy where they are directed towards the cancer cells for killing them preventing the surrounding normal tissues from damage.

Computerized axial tomography is a new technology in medicines. The scans produced with this technique are CAT scans which produce sharp picture of any part of the body. In normal X-ray the body parts are superimposed whereas in CAT scan, with the help of a computer the cross-sectional picture of the particular part is reconstructed. X-rays are carcinogenic, so not recommended frequently for medical purpose. It can develop radiation sickness among patients if exposed for longer periods.

X-rays are also used in investigating paintings, celestial objects and welds. X-ray-crystallography is a research filed in which X-rays are used to take images of individual molecules. They play a major role in quantum mechanics study and cosmology.

Airports are often susceptible to terror attacks. Being light they can penetrate through the materials and baggage easily. The X-ray machine uses dual-energy X-ray system which helps to detect explosives, guns, illegal objects or drugs on airport.

In business and industry sector X-rays are used to find defects in the parts of engines. Cracks in the pipe lines used for oil can be detected with X-rays.

The long battle with breast cancer is finally over for Stefanie Speilman. Stefanie, the wife of Chris Speilman, died on 19^th November at a young age of 42.

Married to Chris Spielman, the NFL and Ohio State Star, Stefanie was 30 years old, when she lost the baby in miscarriage. At that time, she was detected of breast cancer.

Rather than grieving about the disease she and her husband together became the strongest advocates for detecting breast cancer and the related research work. They got engaged in fund raising events for breast cancer research. Together, they raised $6 million for the cause, by Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.

Stefanie particularly helped young women who suffered from breast cancer and who were unable to meet the related expenses of the treatment.

For her contribution towards cancer patients, she was honored by including her in the Women’s Hall of fame in Ohio in the year 2002.

Stefanie suffered four bouts of cancer, the final being in last March.

Both Stefanie and Chris took the fight against the cancer bravely. Much is talked about their personal lives and the strong support Chris provided to her wife when she was passing through difficult phase in her life. Chris shaved off his hair, when Stefanie lost her hair due to Chemotherapy. Also, he forgo one year of his football career to stand by his wife and children as they faced troubled times with Stefanie’s health.

With Stefanie’s health, we have lost a star who lived bravely and lost bravely against the dreadful disease. Stefanie has been known amongst the cancer patients as a source of strength and courage.

Stefanie Spielman leaves behind her husband Chris and their four children, Madison, Macy Noah, and Audrey. She will always be remembered for her contribution towards cancer patients.

The breast cancer makes a person die and many of the Hispanic women die due to the breast cancer. So there is a necessity in organizing the seminars during the breast cancer awareness month. There is an increase in the getting of the breast cancer as the age increases. When a lady is forty plus, she has more chances of getting a breast cancer. Ladies should do regular exercises; have a good and a balanced diet that is rich in nutrients, vitamins, calcium, etc. It is important to avoid alcohol and other intoxicating substances which will brighten up the chances for getting a breast cancer.

Every lady can perform the breast cancer test by herself and then can get clues about whether they have the breast cancer or not. Simple observations like change in the color of the breasts, nipple discharge or any marks on the breast are some of the symptoms of the breast cancer.

In the breast cancer awareness month, the seminars are organized on how to conduct the self test, what are the symptoms of the breast cancer, the severity, the treatment that can be obtained, the side – effects that come along with the breast cancer treatments are generally discussed in these seminars and the programs.

The news has caused Phil Mickelson to cancel two upcoming tournament appearances. The two have been married since 1996, and have three children together, aged 9, 7, and 6.

Amy Mickelson, wife of golfer Phil Mickeslon, has been diagnosed with breast cancer after undergoing testing.

The diagnosis is expected to lead to major surgery in the next two weeks.
Mickelson has canceled the next two tournaments on his schedule, this week’s HP Byron Nelson and next week’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, where is the defending champion.

A news release issued today by Phil Mickelson’s agency, Gaylord Sports Management, said Amy Mickelson underwent an extensive battery of tests before the diagnosis. The release said more tests are scheduled, but the treatment process is expected to begin with major surgery, possibly within the next two weeks.

The couple has three children – Amanda, 9, Sophia, 7, and Evan, 6.

Phil Mickelson has suspended his tour schedule indefinitely, the release said. He has withdrawn from this week’s Byron Nelson Championship in Dallas, and he will not defend his title next week at Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas.
