Apple Cup

The Apple Cup is the annual college football between the two largest universities in Washington (United States), the University of Washington (UW) Huskies and the Washington State University (WSU) Cougars the first game between these two rivalry teams started from November 30, 1900. Before 1962, theteams played for the “Governor’s Trophy.”, it was renamed as the “Apple Cup” on 1962 because of Washington’s famous apple crop.

It is the traditional final game of the regular season and it will be held on the Saturday preceding Thanksgiving at Husky Stadium in Seattle during odd years, and WSU’s Martin Stadium in Pullman during even years, but with college football season extending, the game is often played at a later date.

From 1950–80 (except for 1954), the WSU home games in the series were played at Spokane’s Joe Albi Stadium. The WSU Cougars won three of these fifteen games in Spokane (1958, 1968, 1972), and have won six of the fourteen played at Martin Stadium (1982, 1988, 1992, 1994, 2004, 2008), the most recent clash between these two teams took place on December 4th, 2010.

Since 2007 the Apple Cup has been sponsored by Boeing, With the lengthening of the college football regular season schedule to 12 games in 2006, there was a movement to change the date of the Apple Cup from the weekend before Thanksgiving to the weekend following. For the first time, the 2007 edition of the Apple Cup was played two days after Thanksgiving.

The first rivalry game which was held on the November of 1900, resulted in a tie between UW and WSU. From 1900 to 2010, there have been 103 games took place between the schools. The Huskies hold a 66–31–6 advantage.
UW’s longest winning streak : 8 games (achieved twice from 1959–66 and from 1974–81).
WSU’s longest winning streak : 2 games (but the Cougars have won back-to-back games on eight separate occasions: (1929–30, 1953–54, 1957–58, 1967–68, 1972–73, 1982–83, 2004–05 and 2007–08).

Although Washington leads the overall Apple Cup series till date, the Cougars have taken four of the past seven meetings, which included a double-overtime win in 2008.

Washington currently holds the trophy for two straight years. In 2009, the Cougars lost by 30–0 at Husky Stadium. It was UW’s first shutout since 1964. In 103rd Apple Cup held on 4th December 2010, the Huskies defeated the Cougars by a score of 35-28.The 104th Apple Cup will be played at Qwest Field in Seattle on November 26, 2011 so that the UW can renovate Husky Stadium.

March madness schedule 2010 tournament is going to be started with the highly probable selection. Now it has set and its second round will start from 21^st of this month. This tournament will end on 22^nd day. The March madness has picked up the pace with everyday. The whole population of America is waiting crazily to see their perditions. If they come out as they thought or they are fully off target.

On the schedule of March madness, total three games will be airing just after noon then four in mid-afternoon and then four at 7.00 pm and next four at 9.30 pm. This tournament is very close to the national holiday for the college basketball fans but the games have to live up to publicity. This championship will be determined with a one month long battle of the skills and determinations with the great performances by the top competing teams of colleges.

This will lead up the final four games which will be played on April 3 to 5 at the Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana. The opening round of this tournament was on March 16 at UD Arena, Dayton, OH. The first game of the NCAA tournament will be between BYU vs Florida. Cougars have been the top 25 team all year and on the other hand, Gators got in for their first NCAA tournament because of their 2 national titles.

Reginald Martinez “Reggie” Jackson, born on May18, 1946 is called with the nickname as Mr.October for his clutch hit during the post season. He acted as the American earlier Major League Baseball right fielder and played for five different teams during the year 1967 to 1987. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993. After his retirement only five men had hit more runs than him. He now resides in Carmel, California.

EARLY CAREER OF REGGIE JACKSON:

Reggie Jackson was born in Wyncote, Pennsylvania which is situated in the north of Philadelphia. His father’s name was Martínez Clarence Jackson who acted as a former second baseman with the Newark Eagles of the Negro Leagues.  In the family of the Jackson’s, Martinez was the personal name and not a last name and so his grandmother was in liking of the Spanish name and named him as Martinez Clarence. Then, Reggie’s dad named him as Reggie Martinez.

Reggie Jackson expresses his liking of the antique cars as the chain of the auto dealers in the California and so he became one of the foremost traders for sports. He also decided to purchase a major league team and made unsuccessful try to purchase “Athletics and Angels”.

In 2007, ESPN launched a mini-series called “The Bronx is burning” which was all about the 1977 Yankees. It acts as the central part of the storyline and he was portrayed by Daniel Sunjata. In 2008, he threw out the first pitch at the Yankees Opening Day and the last one at Yankee Stadium. He also threw the first pitch at the first game at the new Yankee Stadium which is an exhibition game.

Jackson was an excellent athlete in track, on the football team, in basketball, and in baseball when he entered his senior year at Cheltenham High School. Reggie Jackson was awarded a scholarship from Arizona State University.

Well, here is the news today.

Agent Joel Segal confirmed the quarterback’s signing, shortly before the team announced it in a text message. The Eagles gave Vick a one-year deal with an option for a second year.

The 29-year-old Vick, once the NFL’s highest-paid player, has been out of action since 2006. The former Atlanta Falcons star was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting ring, and served 18 of a 23-month sentence in federal prison. He also was suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

Commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally lifted Vick’s suspension on July 27, allowing him to sign with a team, practice and play in the last two preseason games. Once the season begins, Vick can participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19) at the latest.

The story was originally broken Thursday evening by Dan Sileo of WDAE in Tampa. Chris Mortensen followed up a half hour later, during ESPN’s broadcast of Cardinals vs. Steelers. The news has been confirmed by Joel Segal, Vick’s agent.

Per the terms of his current NFL suspension, Vick will be able to practice with Philadelphia, but ineligible to play until the Eagles’ third preseason game. Philadelphia hosts Jacksonville on Thursday, August 27, in what would be the first game action Vick could possibly see.

Beyond that, Vick’s reinstatement is on a “conditional basis,” and his regular-season playing status will be determined by Week 6, if not before.
