Darlene Haynes was about eight months pregnant when she was last seen alive. Her body was discovered Monday after her landlord went to check on a report of a strong odor coming from her apartment in Worcester, New England’s second-largest city.

Police say the 23-year-old Haynes was found wrapped in bedding. An autopsy shows her fetus was removed.

Haynes’s body reportedly was so mangled and decomposed that police said they could not immediately identify her gender.

Police say the missing infant could survive but would need medical attention immediately.

“Medical personnel have stated that at 8 months the fetus is viable and could survive; however, it would be needing medical attention immediately,” Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst said. “So we’re urging the public that if they know of anybody who all of the sudden has an infant in their possession who didn’t appear to be pregnant to contact the police.”

The number for Worcester Police is 508-799-8651.

Worcester Police said that Darlene Haynes, 23, was about 8 months pregnant when she was last seen alive on Thursday. Her landlord discovered her body Monday when checking on a report of a strong odor coming from her home. Police said Haynes was found wrapped in a comforter.

The death has been ruled a homicide.

Police confirmed to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette that they have interviewed Haynes’ boyfriend, Roberto C. Rodriguez. The report by the Telegram & Gazette cited court records as saying Haynes had an active restraining order out against Rodriguez for an alleged assault on June 24th.

Police have said that they do not have any suspects at this.

Darlene does have several different MySpace profiles but the one she seems to have used most recently is here. She hasn’t logged in since September of last year and there really doesn’t seem to be a whole lot there that would point to anything specific as far as this case is concerned.

Propofol is a drug that reduces anxiety and tension, and promotes relaxation and sleep or loss of consciousness. Propofol provides loss of awareness for short diagnostic tests and surgical procedures, sleep at the beginning of surgery, and supplements other types of general anesthetics.

Propofol is a very short-acting drug, and its effects generally wear off in just a few hours. However, propofol may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery for several hours after use. Do not attempt to drive yourself home if you have received propofol for minor outpatient surgery or diagnostic tests.

Avoid alcohol, mood-altering drugs, or any other medicines for at least 24 hours after a dose of propofol, unless approved by your prescriber or health care professional.

Propofol is for injection into a vein. It is given by trained anesthesia professionals in a controlled environment.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Side effects that you should report to your health care professional as soon as possible:

    * difficulty breathing, wheezing, swelling of the throat
* fast heartbeat, palpitations
* lightheadedness or fainting spells
* numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
* seizure (convulsion)
* skin rash, flushing (redness), or itching
* swelling or extreme pain at the injection site
* uncontrollable muscle spasm

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

    * dizziness
* pain or irritation at the injection site
