The Australian Open Tennis is a tennis tournament which is the first tournament of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments. These four tennis tournaments held every year. The Australian Open Tennis is held in January at the Melbourne Park, Australia. In year 1905 the tournament held for the first time and this was contested on grass until 1987. Next year in 1988 this tournament held on the hard court at the Melbourne Park. There is only one player who won this tournament on both the grass and hard courts that is Mats Wilander.
There are also men’s and women’s singles competition in this tournament like the other Grand Slam tournaments. Men’s, women’s, mixed doubles, junior’s wheelchair, exhibition and legends’ competitions are also included in Australian Open Tennis. Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena Two main courts are used in this tournament. There in this tournament the feature retractable roofs are also used those can be shut in case of rain or the extreme heat.
The Australian Open Tennis and the Wimbledon are the only Slams with the indoor play. There is an extreme-heat policy in this tournament that is into the game when the temperature and humidity reach at the dangerous level. Therefore the Australian Open Tennis is famous for extremely hot days as this is held in the middle of the Australian summer.
This year the 2010 Australian Open Tennis is occurring currently in Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia. This is the 98th edition of the Australian Open Tennis tournament and also the first Grand Slam of the year. This is from January 18 to January 31, 2010. The finals are going to be played on 31 January.
